A Case Study on Integration of Fault Management for the whole PSTN across multi-vendor switching, transmission and access networks with interfaces to business reporting and trouble-ticketing CRM systems
Operational Requirements
PSTN operator had a partial solution for fault management of one vendor’s network. Operator required gaining self-sufficiency in development and maintenance of multi-vendor network interfaces. Operator also wanted additional features of integration with inventory and root cause analysis
Approach
- Participated with network vendor during pre-sales phase to propose the ideas of having a separate lab system and carrying out joint development of interfaces with operator’s team
- Prepared a detailed project plan for a large project estimated to take 12 to 15 months
- Planned for hardware and software installation, network firewall access security clearance for interfaces, data collection, interface specifications and development cycle
- Split delivery into 4 manageable phases
Solution Delivered
- Lab system site survey, installation and configuration with connectivity to multi-vendor EMS for fault event data collection
- Joint development, inter-system testing, troubleshooting and thorough knowledge transfer to operator’s team for three SNMP v1, two SNMP v2c and one http/XML interfaces
- Customer training for Unix administration, Shell, Perl, XML, SNMP CORBA and TMF814 IDL
- Production system upgrade and data migration
- Topology data import from inventory system
- Development of event correlation rules for root cause analysis for SDH network
